Grassroots football runs on tight margins and goodwill - clubs are generally run by volunteers. Costs that look small feel significant when the alternative is a volunteer spending their Saturday afternoon on the phone to local businesses asking for sponsorship money.

Centre Circle was processing payments through a global payment service provider, but the rates were not built for a sector where every pound saved has a direct impact on what a club can offer its players. As Centre Circle scaled, the cost of processing became a problem in the form of money leaving the ecosystem that could have stayed and contributed towards it.

The platform had spoken to most of the major payment processors and the challenge was not finding a provider who wanted the business. It was finding one whose pricing model could actually move the dial for grassroots clubs, and who understood what was at stake if it did not.

The integration took approximately one month. From the outset, both teams worked to a shared roadmap: agreeing on integration milestones, aligning on go-live timelines, and building with Centre Circle's future growth in mind. From a development standpoint, learnings from a previous integration meant the team knew what to watch for and moved efficiently as a result.

From when we got up and running with Ryft, it was about a month, all in. Compared to our previous experience, it was definitely easier.

Ryft's volume-based pricing has allowed Centre Circle to save clubs an average of £3,000 annually in transaction fees compared to what they were previously being charged.
